There have been 5 writing tasks as part of the knowledge basket. The prompts have useful information you may like to be aware of when writing your report, especially Module 3 and Module 4.
Below is feedback from writing TA Ian.
This writing prompt asked you to write a methods section.
Great job with the writing! This is just a reminder that you make sure that all of your sentences are clear and concise. Try to write well structured paragraphs for the methods section rather than a list with details about the methods used.
It is helpful to clearly state the purpose of the study or the testable hypotheses at the start of the methods, particularly if no Introduction section is included.
Make sure to include the total sample size, source of the data and/or how the data was obtained, and any important data wrangling (i.e., data filtering, calculating new variables) necessary to conduct the analysis.
Clearly state the variables of interest: both the response and predictor variables.
When presenting a model, it is important to define all model parameters.
When using mixed effects models, you should clearly state which variables are fixed and random effects along with the reasoning behind the decision.
For the structure of the methods, you can typically follow this general outline:
Stating the research objectives and purpose of the study
Introducing the data and relevant details (i.e., data source, sample size, variables of interest)
The statistical model and/or subsequent data analyses
Specific model details
Model validation/calibration, if applicable
This writing prompt asked you to write an executive summary.
